For makers

PRACTICAL GUIDES FOR REAL BUILDS.

Short answers to the questions for fursuit makers, cosplayers, and prop builders.

How much fur do I need?

These are starting estimates for a maker of average size with a typical canine-style build. Always add a 10–20% buffer for mistakes and dye-lot matching.

Matching colors across bolts

Dye lots drift. It's a fact of textile manufacturing, not a defect. Here's how we handle it at Foxy Fabrics, and what you can do:

  • Order all of one color in a single purchase when possible — we cut continuous yardage from the same bolt.
  • If a project will take months, buy more than you think you need up front. Cuts from a later bolt may not match.
  • Always order a swatch first if you're matching against another fabric or paint color.
  • Photograph swatches outside in indirect daylight, never under store fluorescents.
